Blues and Greens
Blue and green, and the shades in between, are always popular. They can be muted and soft, or bright and bold. It tends to be relaxing colors, like the sea, the sky, leaves, and grass.
They are also easy to decorate around, as many different shades of furniture and accessories will look great. Consider using blue and green together, in various shades, and then use their complementary colors for accents.
Various shades of blues and greens can be very comforting, stylish, bold, and either give a room depth or make it feel cozier. Olives, teals, navy, emerald, turquoise, and all shades in between can be used for an entire wall or as an accent.
Pastels
Lighter shades of pinks, blues, purples, greens, and many others are also a popular choice. These colors are perfect for bedrooms, dens, living rooms, and kitchens.
You can use one color in varying shades for a muted look or try combining a few of them together, to create a soft, comfortable look. Use darker and bolder furniture, drapes, and accessories to make them stand out even more.
The paler tones can be used for the entire room without diminishing it in size. You can use a darker shade of the same paint color for baseboards, or windows, and door frames.
Earth Tones
Browns, greys, tans, oranges, and yellows can all be used together or separately to create the mood and style you want. Light brown walls with darker accents look calm and relaxing and can really set a mood.
Brighter colors are also becoming more popular. Orange walls can highlight yellows, browns, and even greens and blues. Yellow walls in the kitchen can be extremely cheery.
Earth tones will never be out of style. They are warm and have a lot of versatility. You can use them in any room, as the main color or accent. Darker browns and greens can leave the visitor feeling very relaxed and comfortable.
White, Off-White, and Creams
There will never be a time when a good white wall is not welcome. Painting your entire room a dark shade might work in smaller rooms, but not for all of them.
White walls or off-white work really well in kitchens, living rooms, or other rooms where you have a lot of other colors going on. Large colorful artwork, bright carpets and drapes, loud, fun furniture, or where there are larger dark furniture pieces.
Pale walls give you a lot of freedom when it comes to the decor around the walls. A bright, sunny room will look even brighter and a smaller room will seem much bigger than it really is.
