With the entire world under stay at home orders, many of us are making discoveries about ourselves. And our homes. Spaces that seemed to function well now seem cramped or dull. It can be difficult to be comfortable with several people in the same space. It’s the perfect time to start making plans for your home remodeling venture. Being home all day will show you exactly where you need to make changes.

Work Space

For those who are able to work from home, you are likely to find problems with your workspace. Perhaps there is no privacy or there is too much noise, either from your family or the neighborhood.

If you have a spare room that you have been using, you can make it more suitable for your needs. Remove the closet for more floor space or remove the doors and use it for storage or a filing cabinet.

Basement

Perhaps you have an unused space in the basement or attic. What better use would there be than to remodel it into your dream office space. For a basement, add some cheery paint and wall coverings, lay a carpet and maybe enlarge the window spaces.

It can also make a nice space for just getting away. Quiet and cool, set up a television or add some books or a games table where the family can get together and enjoy the new space.

If you have kids in the house, you might be looking for extra space for homeschooling. The basement would be perfect for that. Put in some desks, a white board and set up your own classroom.

Attic

For an attic, you might have to add ventilation or fans for the warmer months. But there is plenty you can do to brighten up the space and make it work as an office and spare space for just getting away.

It can also be made into an extra bedroom, if people like a bit more privacy. There is a lot you can do in an attic space to make it feel very comfortable and homey.

Kitchen

Many of us are discovering problems with our kitchens. Too small or too cramped or just out of date. If you have several people trying to use it at the same time, it can seem very crowded.

Look at where you can add some space. You may want to extend the kitchen to add a little work space. Add a desk and a small portable cabinet with a few drawers. For enclosed spaces, consider removing a wall and adding an island to open the space up.

Planning to Stay in

Staying at home can certainly have its advantages. Take a good look at your space and see where you can make improvements with a home remodeling project.

Everyone needs their own space from time to time, so make some plans that will work for everyone and make the best of a bad situation and plan to remodel your home.
