How do you know it’s time for a kitchen remodel? As it is a big job, you don’t want to take it on unless you really need to. But there comes a time when your kitchen just isn’t working as well as it could be.
Our needs change over the years. Our families grow, or get smaller, technology advances, and even our eating habits change. So if your kitchen is older or just not up to where it could be, it might be time for a remodel.
6 Signs it’s Time for a Kitchen Remodel
When your kitchen isn’t working for you, it becomes a place where you don’t want to be. As our kitchens are our busiest rooms, you need to keep it working for you.
1. No Storage
Lack of storage is a major complaint from people who believe it’s time for a kitchen remodel. We often buy new pots, pans, dishes, and other kitchen tools without getting rid of the old ones.
A kitchen remodel could be just the ticket for getting in better cabinets, expanding the room, and making sure you have plenty of storage space. Older cabinets were not designed for today’s needs.
2. No Prep Space
Another area where people have concerns is not enough counter space. Perhaps your kids are older and helping with meal prep, and it’s just too difficult for more than one person to work.
Counter space can be opened up by adding an island to give you that extra space, adding new cabinets to get all your appliances off the counter, or extending your counter.
3. Bad Lighting
Many older kitchens have one center light in the middle of the room. This means you have two choices for lighting, on or off. Adding new lights can help make the room more comfortable and functional.
Under cabinet lights are great for working, lights on a dimmer can help create better moods and lights for doing different tasks, and even add some great light fixtures to make the room more inviting.
4. Old Appliances
Older appliances can actually cost you a lot more money to keep running. Newer appliances are programmable so you can run them even when you are not at home.
Older appliances just don’t hold up as well, and you can replace them all at once. Some are more compact or stackable, which leaves more room for more work spaces or storage.
5. Surfaces are Damaged
If your countertops and floors are stained, yellow, torn, cut, or just tired, it’s time for a kitchen remodel. Nothing ages a kitchen like cut up and stained countertops and floors.
Even if the counters are fine, the tops can always be replaced with something brighter and more durable. Floors need to be durable, easy to care for, and covered in something that won’t stain, break or tear.
6. Power Issues
Another big sign it’s time for a kitchen remodel is if you keep tripping your breakers. Wiring in older homes was not meant for the needs of today. Getting your home rewired can help save you money on your energy bill.
More outlets, a charging station for your devices, and safer wiring will help keep your energy bill lower and actually make your home much safer against electrical fires.
